Step 03. Select Starting Equipment
All characters start with a modicum of equipment before they start adventuring. Although it is purchased with “starting silver”, this equipment is assumed to be gathered over the years, and not necessarily outright purchased. Equipment, their costs, and their effects are all discussed in Chapter 5.
Starting Silver
Section titled “Starting Silver”Each character starts with a random amount of silver they can use to purchase starting equipment. You determine how much silver you gain based on your Class Keywords. If you have multiple class keywords, select one to use to determine your starting silver.
| Keyword | Starting Silver | Avg |
|---|---|---|
| Adept | 4d6 * 10 | 140 |
| Arcanist | 3d6 * 10 | 105 |
| Soldier | 5d8 * 10 | 225 |
| Priest | 5d6 * 10 | 175 |
Purchasing Equipment
Section titled “Purchasing Equipment”ITD&TD has coins listed in Copper, Silver, and Gold. Copper is what most peasants deal with, Silver tends to be for the well off, but Gold is where most rich do their trade. Low level adventurers will likely deal in silver, and eventually begin dealing in gold as they reach a higher level. Coinage will be gone over in greater detail in Chapter 6, but a quick premier is: 100 Copper equals 1 Silver, and 100 Silver equals 1 Gold.
Look through the equipment in chapter 6, decide what your character may want, and use your starting silver to purchase it. Your GM, or a campaign guide, may have details regarding what equipment you can and cannot purchase, or alter prices. For example, Cerrix campaigns taking place in the Kaldrfjords might have restrictions placed on Plate Armor, either by means of increased price, requiring 3-5 months to purchase and order, or even simply not being available.
Equipment Kits
Section titled “Equipment Kits”Some players may not wish to pour over equipment lists to decide on what they want their character to have. If this is case, equipment kits are available. Equipment kits contain a bundle of pre-selected gear that a character can grab. Equipment kits cost the same as purchasing all gear inside, but allow a player to quickly grab equipment suited for a task without the details. Basic equipment kits are listed in Chapter 6, with additional kits listed in Campaign guides.
